Mallow 34 V Newcastle-West 13
After several poor performances from Mallow in recent weeks, they eventually got their 2007/2008 season started with a bonus point win against newly promoted Newcastle West on Sunday 14th October.
An early penalty from Newcastle West gave the visitors the lead but Mallow soon stamped their authority on the game when John Singleton scored the opening try for the hosts. Andrew Cashman converted to give Mallow the edge. Mallow and Newcastle-West both scored penalties to keep the scoreboard ticking over but it was Newcastle West that took the advantage when Mallow's poor discipline allowed them to score their only try late in the first half. Mallow responded with a try from some excellent work by the Mallow pack. In the second half Mallow continued to extend their lead with try's from Cashman and scrum half Rory McSherry.
